Vegan & Vegetarian Ayurvedic Cooking Classes
Get cooking in an interactive class of cooking and eating together. Participants learn to make one element of the 3 coursed authentic Indian meal that we then eat together. Meals are served on a thali (a large flat round tray) or on banana leaves.
Some of the Cooking Classes Offered
South Indian Thali [Vegan with side dishes that contain curd]
A selection of curries and sides that are infused with flavours distinctive of the hotter, balmy regions of India. The use of freshly crushed coconut, curry-leaves, tamarind, lime, ginger, turmeric and curd are some of the ingredients used to cool the body.
North Indian Thali [Vegetarian, sauces & ingredients containing dairy are substituted for Vegans]
A selection of curries and sides infused with the flavours distinctive of the colder regions of North India. These curries are richly flavoured with cream, cashew nuts and saffron.
South African Thali
The South African Indian diaspora, has held on strongly to the Indian culture while creating a unique identity that is unmistakeably South African. This is reflected in the food culture which has been adapted to the land and vegetation abundant in each region. Traditional recipes have been changed to suit the climate and availability or lack thereof of ingredients. These altered recipes have been passed down to the 4 generations of Indians that live all over South Africa.
